A comparative study on the Israel-Palestine conflict: How did the Associated Press and Bernama depict the 2008/9 war on Gaza?

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 90-99)This study examines how the Associated Press and the Malaysian National News Agency Bernama portrayed the Gaza conflict in 2008/09. Utilizing framing analysis, this study examined the problem, causes, moral judgment, and solutions surrounding the Gaza conflict. The findings suggest that the wire services covered the crisis differently. Although the Associated Press became increasingly sympathetic towards the Palestinian people, it nonetheless represented a pro-Israel point of view. Bernama, on the other hand, sided with the Palestinian people and followed the official Malaysian status quo. Consequently, these findings have far reaching implications based on the notion that news may influence people's construction of reality and their opinions toward foreign affairs
