We present in detail the derivation of the state-space equations, system response as well as the state feedback gain matrix. Next, we present a PID controller in the context of the root locus design methodology. We use a ball position control problem to illustrate the root locus design method for obtaining valid values of the controller gains that meet our design specifications. In the end, Matlab program and simulation results are provided.
