Increasing intrinsic academic motivation in the classroom

This project is designed to give teachers specific strategies that they can use in their classrooms in order increase intrinsic academic motivation of their students. Research has shown ways in which to accomplish this goal. Research has also shown ways in which teachers unknowingly decrease a student's intrinsic motivation. With this literature in mind, the project was erected. The project goes over the related research and demonstrates how this research cari. be utilized in the classroom. The strategies emphasized throughout the workshop are praise, the infrequent use of unexpected rewards, the effect of various types of rewards, connecting curriculum with hands-on learning, collaboration among students, and emphasizing the student's responsibility to learn
