Cyber-bullying: The 21st century evolution of the ancient human problem of bullies

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 51-56)The purpose of this project is to compile a CD of information pertaining to the latest incarnation of the ages old problem of bullying: cyberbullying. This CD bridges the existing gap in the apparent lack of knowledge and understanding held by three groups of stakeholders: teachers, parents, and students. Although these groups may use the rapidly advancing co1111llunication technology in their everyday lives, there seems to be a disparate balance of technology savvy in favor of the students. It is because of this that cyberbullying is growing in frequency. The older generations see the new technology for its utilitarian usefulness, whereas some youth (and the number looks as if it is increasing) find it a convenient extension of traditional bullying. The CD is a starting point for each group to begin to learn about cyberbullying; what it is, how it is perpetrated, and what steps can be taken to avoid or stop it. Because it is in CD format it can readily be distributed to parents and teachers at the beginning of a new school term or at school run workshops or seminars, and used in the school resource/guidance center. Due to the rapidly changing and ever growing nature of the Internet, this CD is not intended to be final say on this topic but to provide a good foundation of knowledge and guide the user to where more detailed and extensive information can be obtained
