Ammophila arenaria was introduced to North America in 1868 for sand\ud stabilization, and since its introduction it has invaded most of the dune ecosystems of the\ud Pacific coast of North America. The 222 ha dune ecosystem at Gold Bluffs Beach within\ud Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Humboldt County, California) has become heavily\ud invaded by A. arenaria , and if left unmanaged this habitat was likely to become a dense\ud monoculture of A. arenaria.
