DSEC: The Dennis sex education curriculum

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 36-41)Every year, about 19 million sexually transmitted infections are contracted and nearly 50% of them are among adolescents, 15 to 24 years old (Weinstock, Berman, & Cates, 2004). The purpose of this project was to create a sex education curriculum for secondary school adolescents to address issues regarding risky sexual behavior. The design of the Dennis Sex Education Curriculum (DSEC) incorporates comprehensive sex education with parental involvement and the promotion of safe sex, rather than encouraging adolescents that their only option is abstinence. Data from many sources was compiled to construct this curriculum aimed at decreasing high risk sexual behavior among teenagers. Recommendations for program modifications and effectiveness are discussed
