Recent research and case study work contain findings that the conditions of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Substance-use Disorder (SUD) generally co-occur, and that most specifically this co-morbidity exists in the female gender. Existing research has yet to establish the type of treatment that is effective for the combination of PTSD and the abuse of or addiction to alcohol, although, as this study will show, great advances have been made toward understanding the clinical and medical issues surrounding the co-morbidity of these two disorders. This work conducts a research review in this area, states findings, and makes suggestion of an appropriate methodology for treatment of these frequently co-occurring disorders
