Women living in Germany from 1919 to 1945 became objects of an ever revolving description of a woman's role in society. Depending on the different events occurring in Germany, along with the women's racial background and profession, women were advised and even coerced to shift their duties. Those women who lived during the Weimar Republic felt a sense of emancipation. They did not feel pressured to limit their duties to being strictly housewives and, thus, were seen actively participating in politics, employment and education. This role did not remain static for the Nazi era, quickly putting an end to the emancipated woman for the purposes of restructuring male and female relations in terms of public and family life.
