Since the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, that killed hundreds of thousands of people, there has been an increase in research and development in Early Warning Systems for tsunami. In this project, a study is being done to understand how a submarine earthquake transfers its energy to the ocean that results in a tsunami. Most tsunami warning systems rely on the magnitude of an earthquake to determine if a tsunami will be generated. By using data from coastal GPS stations that are near epicenters, a real-time method can be established to estimate the energy of a tsunami before it reaches coastal areas
