This study examined The New York Times' coverage of Nancy Pelosi after being elected Speaker of the House - the highest position held by a woman yet. This qualitative study analyzed the discourse through a critical lens in order to reveal institutional beliefs surrounding women in high-elected office. By examining what was included and omitted in coverage, this research found that though parity among female and male politicians is often promoted in the press, women are still characterized through traditional frameworks. The coverage also lacked historical context about women in politics and revealed a deeper understanding of how gender affects coverage
