Cyberbullying: A workshop for parents of middle school students

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 40-42)Trends for using social media have gone up, which includes the use of personal computers, mobile electronic devices, the Internet to access the content of social networking websites. School aged adolescents are engaging in an online world where they can interact with each other and extend their social interactions beyond the schoolyard. Some of these youth are engaged in malicious behaviors and character assaults that is popularly identified as cyberbullying, and these cyber attacks can be detrimental to their victim's psyche, wellbeing, and overall health. Current research indicates that a multifaceted approach is needed to address this issue and should include involving the bullies, victims, school system, community, and most importantly parents in order to work towards preventing and responding to cyberbullying. As a result, a workshop that covers the broad scope of cyberbullying was developed for this graduate thesis project, and is meant to be conducted by school counselors for the parents of middle school students
