Cognitive behavioral therapy and art therapy: Combining treatment for sexually abused adolescent Latinas

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 71-75)This graduate project was initiated with the goal of creating a handbook for the treatment of child sexual abuse in adolescent Latinas to be used as a tool to assist therapists working with this population. The first chapter focuses on introducing the population and relevant statistics related to the occurrence of child sexual abuse in the Latino community. A review of the literature was conducted in the second chapter. Topics relevant to the literature review included: definitions of child sexual abuse, healthy sexuality, victimization of children, effects and impact of child sexual abuse, the Latino community, re-victimization, post-traumatic stress, treatment issues, cognitive behavioral therapy, and art therapy. Chapter three consists of an overview of the development of the project, the intended use of the handbook, information pertinent to the qualifications of the therapist, and an outline of the handbook. The fourth chapter provides a brief introduction to the handbook. Chapter five summarizes the relevant information and offers suggestions for future work
