It begins with the Baroque English oratorio, working through to the romantic period, with the harmonically saturated German Lieder, the French chansons at the brink of atonality, and British songs that move freely between tonal and atonal sections. The program focuses mainly on the themes of faith, sensuality, and motherhood, hopefully bringing the listener to new understandings of these primal life experiences. (See more in text.
