Graduate recital in instrumental conducting

Includes recorded audio files in WAV and MP3 formats, 29:34 in length.The graduate project of Kraig Alan Williams consisted of the public performance of two compositions. The first performance was held on October 20, 1989, at the University Student Union with the California State University, Northridge Wind Ensemble. The piece performed was Cancion de Gesta, by Leo Brouwer (b1939). The second performance was held on December 10, 1989, at the Reseda High School auditorium with the California State University, Northridge Symphony Orchestra. The piece performed was the Overture from L'Italiana in Algieri, by Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868). L'Italiana in Algieri was composed in May of the year 1813, a time when Rossini's life was brimming with youthful exuberance. His home was the lighthearted province of Venetia - a place where gaiety flourished and leaped about the landscape. It was a time when every village had its own band and one could always hear the sound of an oboe, clarinet, or flute or bass drum as it filled the air and the soul with wit and charm. Rossini's overture itself is filled with this same omnipresent charm that captivated his life and surroundings. The delightful province and people of Venetia are immortalized in his melodic and rhythmic content, choice of key, orchestration, and structure. (See more in text.
