Problem-based instruction (PBI) is a proven pedagogical approach with promising\ud applications in the elementary math classroom. Problem-based instruction engages\ud students in inquiry and connects in-class learning to the world outside the classroom.\ud When PBI is partnered with math discourse principles, students are able to engage in inquiry\ud while expanding their thinking by participating in meaningful discussions with\ud their peers.
