Revision and phylogenetic analysis of spider genus Porteria Simon (Araneae, Desidae)

Eleven new species of Porteria are proposed with descriptions and key to species as well\ud as a more in depth redescription of the type species P. albopunctata. The genus has been\ud divided into two species groups based on genitalic morphology: the Albopunctata group\ud includes the type species, fiura, eddardstarki, ajimayo and misbianka; the Bunnyana\ud group contains bunnyana, faberi, torobayo, alopobre, correcaminos, ramirezi and\ud ariasbohartae. Five gene fragments were sequenced including the ribosomal nuclear\ud genes 18S and 28S, the mitochondrial protein coding gene cytochrome oxidase 1 (COl)\ud and the nuclear protein coding genes histone-3 (H3) and Actin. Ten of twelve species of\ud Porteria are included as well as five outgroup taxa comprised of Australasian Stiphidiids\ud including proposed sister taxa Cambridgea, Corasoides and Nanocambridgea.\ud Parsimony, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic analyses were performed\ud on the concatenated data set and resulting phylogenies agreed with the majority of the\ud morphological species groupings. Biogeography of Chile and southern South America is\ud briefly discussed
