Graduation date: 1997Forest management has been influenced by many social and political changes, and one\ud of the most prominent is the increasing urbanization of neighboring lands. As a result,\ud forests once relatively far removed from urban areas now share boundaries with residential\ud developments, and receive increasing pressure to provide recreation and other non-commodity\ud values. Traditional commodity-oriented management actions impact such\ud values, drawing criticism, misunderstanding, and media attention.
