Graduation date: 1985The major considerations for acquiring and using a\ud geographic information system (G..I.S.) for regional or national\ud geographical research and analysis are examined in this paper.\ud After defining what a G.I.S. is, some of the more practical and\ud useful functions of a G.I.S. in day-to--day geographical work are\ud outlined. Finally, the importance of evaluating the accuracy of\ud the mapped data that is to be input into the G.I.S. and the ways\ud that geographers can improve on accuracy when compiling their own\ud study maps for input into a G.I.S. are explored
