This study examined the social communication profiles of 12 dyads which included a young child (18-48 months) with congenital blindness using a semi-structured, play based, manualized protocol: the Communication Play Protocol (CPP) (Adamson & Bakeman, 2012). Children and their caregivers were found to be synchronous in their communication profiles with each member of the dyad equally contributing to the interaction. Caregiver and child characteristics were found to be related to the dyad's social interaction profile and predictive of social communication competence.
