Evaluation of the Performance of Mobile Video Applications Over WIMAX

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access) is a new technology to provide wireless networking service over long distance due to its high data throughput, low cost deployment, and large coverage region. The goal of this thesis work is to evaluate the capacity of mobile WiMAX in terms of supporting video applications. To achieve this goal, various simulation scenarios have been created using OPNET to measure the performance of video applications. Key parameters including end-to-end delay, jitter, and throughput are used in performance evaluation. The simulations scenarios comprise of various mobile transmission cases with different traffic load, different number of users per cell, various velocity in moving, as well as various mobility models. In particular, we compare the impact of random way point model, trajectory movement, and group mobility on the performance of real-time video transmission, and such comprehensive review will enhance the current knowledge of WiMAX capacities
