While not born in this country, many undocumented college students self-identify as American. This unique situation of being born outside of the country while being largely socialized in the United States creates a bifurcated consciousness where they straddle between being undocumented, yet American. In many ways, we can explore and understand undocumented college students as stateless individuals who are both involuntary and immigrant minorities.
