Understanding the Cambodian/Cambodian American conception of community

This thesis explores the Cambodian and Cambodian American conceptions of community.\ud The questions that guide this exploration are: How do Cambodians/Cambodian\ud Americans understand and articulate community? Has there been a notion of community\ud that is socially conscious and expresses solidarity in Khmer? What is the Khmer\ud equivalent of community? How did the notion of community develop (or not develop)\ud over time in Cambodia???s long history? Is there a Cambodian/Cambodian American\ud community that is transnational and diasporic? What is the interplay between community\ud and cultural nationalism? Is cultural nationalism enough to unite Cambodians/Cambodian\ud Americans at the grassroots level? How does the Cambodian/Cambodian American view\ud of community impact the capacity for collective action? These questions about\ud Cambodian American social relations, ideologies, and experiences are relevant to\ud community leaders, community-based organizations, and community health practitioners\ud in that they can help improve outreach and build resilience, providing a more effective\ud intervention outcome
