Simulation in a terminal independent environment

Includes bibliographical references (pages 164-165)A major goal of the Visual Algorithms project at\ud California State University, Northridge is to execute\ud graphic simulations in support of Computer Aided\ud Instruction (CAI) on a broad range of terminals, machines\ud and/or operating systems. In support of the above goal, this project provides\ud a logical description, in terms of data structures and\ud processes, of a 'virtual screen' program that can be\ud used for the development of computer aided instruction\ud packages in a terminal/machine/operating system- independent\ud environment. This 'virtual screen' includes a stack-based window\ud environment and is data-driven. It currently functions\ud on a AT&T 3b5 running Unix System V; an IBM Personal\ud Computer AT running XENIX System V; and an IBM Personal\ud Computer running MS-DOS. A simple CAI lesson was written. The 'virtual\ud screen' program was tested and successfully ran on the\ud three computers and operating systems listed above and\ud on four different monitors/terminals. Some minor\ud portability problems and difficulties were encountered.\ud These problems are discussed
