Communication curriculum for family practice residents : a training program

Includes bibliographical references (pages 68-73)This project is designed to: 1) increase physician awareness of\ud communication patterns between doctor and patient; and 2) to\ud integrate communication teaching into the Family Practice\ud Residency Program at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC).\ud Curricula on communication for Family practice Residents was\ud designed.\ud This project reviews two needs assessments on patient-physician\ud communication. Questionnaires were administered to FPRs to assess\ud the need for curricula on the topic of communication skills.\ud Analysis of the needs assessments indicated that FPRs desire to\ud have training in the process of communication skills. Based on the \ud findings of these needs assessments curricula was designed to\ud enhance doctor-patient communication.\ud An implementation and evaluation plan to maximize the\ud effectiveness of this curriculum was described. Questionnaires, to\ud be used by the physician in patient-physician encounters, were also\ud developed
