The heart of the hawk

The Heart of the Hawk is a novel about a young American\ud Indian named Tom Red Hawk who returns from the Viet Nam\ud war to attend college in Vermont at Bartlett University.\ud Red Hawk is a complex person, and aspires to be a writer.\ud He begins a novel about the war and his experiences, with\ud particular focus on an incident with a young Vietnamese\ud woman.\ud At Bartlett he meets another young woman, a rich,\ud beautiful, and self-possessed student named Julia Abernathy\ud with whom he falls in love.\ud As the story progesses Tom and Julia decide to marry,\ud but complicating factors must be overcome, and they undergo \ud a separation. Tom learns that his novel will be published,\ud and he meets an old love whom he hasn't seen in several\ud years.\ud Tom Red Hawk must make some crucial decisions about\ud his life and his future, and attempts to do so while on\ud assignment to write a magazine article in Viet Nam, where\ud he is wounded.\ud He returns to the States and confronts his dilemma,\ud only to have it further complicated by unforseen events.\ud Finally, he makes his decision, and his life takes several\ud unanticipated turns
