A company-wide software support organization

Includes bibliographical references (pages 101-103)Improvement of software productivity is a major factor in the reduction\ud of software costs. In this thesis, an organizational structure is\ud proposed to help companies improve productivity in their software\ud development operations. The organizational structure is based on\ud proven mechanisms from Organization Theory that facilitate information\ud exchange thus reducing task uncertainty, thereby improving\ud productivity. The structure was also influenced by the objectives of\ud the Ada Programming Support Environment, namely reuse of software, and\ud support of software development tasks. The proposed organization is composed of groups that, with the aid of technological devices, support various software development tasks. Assisting with estimates of project size, schedule, and budget; reviewing documents; and supplying a software group with software\ud tools, and expertise are some examples. The proposed organization is a logical step towards structuring an enterprise for more efficient and effective development of software. The organization is proposed, not as a final solution, but rather, as a\ud step towards that goal
