For purposes of demonstration

My current body of work are mixed-media pieces which incorporate acrylics, watercolors, pastels, hand-made papers, aluminum, found objects, and other various elements. In essence, I use whatever ???tools??? I deem proper and necessary to successfully translate the image from idea to substance. It is with these media that I construct a three-dimensional construction with the intention of photographing it for the final presentational format. Last, the surface is treated with a process which achieves a dual surface quality which is partially glossy and partially dulled or matte.\ud Formally, my concern is with creating a flatness of space and a frontality of figure, object, and scene. It is solely to assist this effect that I utilize the camera; to redefine the three-dimensional construction into a two-dimensional, compressed space. An intrinsic characteristic of the camera; selected focus, is also intentionally used to choose certain areas of the painted surfaces to fall out of focus while other elements are retained in sharp detail. Though all these independent elements (painting, sculpture, and photography) are of great importance, the chief aim in this body of work is to create a perfect ???Symbiosis??? between these three media.
