Music Annual Assessment Report to the College 2013-2014

Describes the Music Department's assessment activities for the academic year 2013-2014.The Music Department annual assessment report to the College for the Office of Academic Assessment. The department conducted a cross-sectional assessment of its undergraduate media composition program SLO 7 by comparing a gateway project with a capstone project. The result was satisfactory. An assessment of the graduate music theory program was also assessed, utilizing an entrance and an exit exam in the graduate capstone class MUS604 focused on graduate SLO 3. The exams were evaluated according to a committee-designed rubric and conducted by a single professor. The results were also satisfactory, with the exception of the assessment of student essay writing abilities, which were found to be ???poor,??? a result attributed to the ???large number of international students currently enrolled??? in the program. Additional screening of program applicants, as well as tutoring in writing, are planned
