Issues in implementing a child sexual abuse prevention curriculum in the child care setting

Includes bibliographical references (pages 76-80)This paper discusses the issues involved in\ud implementing a child sexual abuse prevention curriculum\ud with preschool children in a child care setting. A project\ud which involved the training of regular child care staffs,\ud parents, and about 100 children, age two years, nine\ud months through five took place in two state-subsidized\ud Child Development Centers in the Fall and Winter of 1985.\ud Background is given about the sexual abuse of children and about the evaluation of curricula designed for the primary prevention of such abuse. Major concern are raised about the training of staff to present the program, parent education and participation, and the intended and unintended effects of the curriculum on young children. The need for systematic evaluation of prevention efforts with preschool children and the active involvement of child care staffs and families is stressed.
