A FUVJ foi entidade mantenedora da Faculdade de Filosofia e Letras de Diamantina e representou o in?cio do ensino superior direcionado ? forma??o docente no Vale do Jequitinhonha. O recorte temporal inicia-se em dezembro de 1965, quando por interm?dio da Lei Estadual n?. 4.059, a Funda??o Universidade do Vale do Jequitinhonha foi autorizada a se instituir e finaliza-se em setembro de 1974, com o Decreto Federal n?. 74.573, que concedeu o reconhecimento ? faculdade e seus cursos. Adotou-se o m?todo dial?tico a fim de compreender a pluridimensionalidade do objeto de estudo. Sob o aspecto epistemol?gico, realizou-se uma abordagem qualitativa. Utilizou-se da revis?o de literatura a fim de relacionar a institui??o com a pol?tica educacional para o ensino superior, na busca do conhecimento da realidade e suas conex?es com a conjuntura pol?tica, econ?mica, social e cultural. Para compreender a institui??o e suas interfaces com o contexto estadual, regional e local, foram utilizadas an?lises documentais (documentos oficiais, legisla??es e peri?dicos locais) e, ainda, entrevistas semiestruturadas, a fim de se problematizar a institui??o estudada na sua rela??o com a comunidade envolvente. Em rela??o ?s conclus?es da pesquisa, observa-se que as motiva??es para a cria??o da FUVJ estiveram relacionadas tanto ao contexto de interioriza??o do ensino superior promovido pelo poder p?blico estadual, quanto ao anseio social em transformar a cidade educacional, em cidade universit?ria. Esta pesquisa tamb?m contribuiu para revelar cientificamente a import?ncia local e regional da institui??o. Por fim, considerando a natureza profissional do Mestrado em Educa??o no qual esta pesquisa se insere, apresenta-se como proposta de produto final a reestrutura??o/reorganiza??o do Memorial da FEVALE, a fim de que este possa ser al?m de um espa?o de conserva??o da mem?ria institucional, um ambiente que possibilite refletir sobre a institui??o, que possa demonstrar a sua import?ncia hist?rica e esteja dispon?vel a visita??es, estimulando e promovendo conhecimento e futuras investiga??es cient?ficas.Disserta??o (Mestrado Profissional) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Educa??o, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2019.The present research focused on the historical process of the Funda??o Universidade do Vale do Jequitinhonha (FUVJ) creation, from the point of view of its relationship with the local community and of the higher education legislation. The FUVJ was the maintaining entity of the Faculdade de Filosofia e Letras of Diamantina and represented the beginning of higher education aimed at theacher education in the Vale do Jequitinhonha. The time frame starts in December 1965, when through the act n. 4.059, the Funda??o Universidade do Vale do Jequitinhonha was authorized to be instituted and ends in Setemper 1974, with Federal Decree n. 74.573, which granted recognition to the Faculty and its courses. The dialectical method was adopted to understand the multidimensionality of the object of study. From the epistemological point of view, a qualitative approach was adopted. The literature review was used to relate the institution to the educational policy for higher education, to find a understanding of reality and its connections with the political, economic, social and cultural conjuncture. In order to understand the institution and its interfaces with the state, regional and local context, documentary analyses were used (official documents, legislations and local newspapers) and, also, semi-structured interviews, with the aim of problematize the institution studied in its relationship with the surrounding community. Regarding the research findings, it is observed that the motivations for the FUVJ creation were related both to the interiorization context of higher education promoted by the public power and to the social aspiration to transform the educational city into a university city. This research also contributed to reveal, scientifically, the local and regional importance of the institution. Finally, considering the professional nature of the Master in Education where this research is, it is proposed as a final product the restructuring/reorganization of the Memorial FEVALE, so that it can be beyond a space of conservation of the institutional memory, an space that allows to think over the institution, that can demonstrate its historical importance and be available to visitations, encouraging and promoting knowledge and future scientific investigations
