Born by numbers

Born by Numbers is a novel set in Naples, Italy. It features three characters: a man\ud approaching his untimely death, his wife about to give birth, and their unborn child. Told\ud from the perspective of the unborn daughter, who counts the days to her own birth soon\ud after her father's death, the story explores the nature of grief, and how the characters cope\ud with it, resorting to either faith or superstition. Steeped in Neapolitan culture, the private\ud experience of grief becomes a public affair in the life of one neighborhood, where minor\ud characters, relatives and neighbors, populate the novel with their own voices and dramas.\ud Born by Numbers uses the power of fiction to explore how prenatal life can affect the future.\ud It is also an attempt to discover whether it is possible to have a memory of what is\ud ???unknown,??? and to imagine a relationship between pre-birth and afterlife
