In this paper, I present a reading of the Meditations through Descartes???s conception of\ud intellectual emotions. I argue that, for Descartes, some emotions are involved in the\ud process of meditation. Particularly, I provide evidence to suggest that intellectual\ud emotions of joy and sorrow facilitate the attainment and sustainment of clear and distinct\ud perception of God. This view, I argue, contributes to Beardsley???s account of love and\ud provides a complete understanding of the role emotions play in the work of the\ud Meditations
