Summary of research and interviews on selected child development topics: a resource for parent educators

Includes bibliographical references (pages 87-92)The purpose of this project was to develop a resource\ud for parent educators. The project focused on ten areas\ud of interest and concern to parents of young children under\ud the age of six years. These areas were identified from\ud two separate questionnaires completed by parents enrolled\ud in public education classes and by their parent education\ud instructors.\ud Responses to the questionnaires indicated that parents\ud wanted up-dated information on specific topics presented\ud by individuals with expertise in the field of concern. Parent\ud educators indicated a need to have access to resource\ud people/speakers in the educational setting. The ten topics\ud of greatest concern to parents were: 1) working. mothers, \ud 2) hospitals and children, 3) discipline, 4) self-esteem,\ud 5) divorce and single parenting, 6) play as it relates to\ud reading, 7) a child???s understanding of death, 8) abuse and\ud neglect of children, 9) sibling relationships, and 10) television.\ud Each topic comprises a summary of literature and\ud a summary of an interview with an expert on that subject
