The algebraic\ud theory of finite fields is used to discuss cyclic codes and thus\ud introduce Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem codes, a special case of which is\ud the Reed-Solomon code. An algorithm for decoding Reed-Solomon codes is\ud given. Also, several specific examples are worked out to help\ud illustrate these codes
