Its name is on the feature to its diameter, being hundreds of times thinner than a human hair and more invisible for the most powerful electron microscopes. Contamination of nanomaterials for therapeutic application-diagnosis can occur at any stage of the process. One of the major contaminants is lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Once infected removal is difficult, since the LPS are resistant to high temperatures and pH extremes. The objective of this work is to determine LPS in Wall Carbon Nanotube Multi (NTCPM) and Carbon Nanotubes Wall Multiple carboxyl (NTCPM-COOH). For testing in vitro, splenocytes were isolated from BALB/c mice. The detection of LPS was performed using the method of gel in tube, Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) gelation method and plate with a sensitivity of 1UE/mL, the NTC were sterilized in an autoclave, oven and autoclave Pasteur in three cycles. LPS was detected in the sample that was not sterile and has suffered only one autoclave cycle, already formed and autoclaved at 3 cycles was removed all the LPS. Cell viability and proliferation test were performed in sterilized and unsterilized samples at a concentration of 10ng/mL. The results showed no significant difference (p <0.05) in the test cell viability of splenocytes, although it was observed a slight decrease in the concentration of LPS with sterile materials, since the LPS decreases cell proliferation and a increased frequency of cells directly proportional to the concentrations of suspensions NTCPM time of 48 hours.Os Nanotubos de Carbono (NTC) são estruturas cilíndricas de carbono com propriedades químicas e físicas que as tornam potencialmente úteis em aplicações mecânicas e elétricas em escala microscópica. O seu nome se da em característica ao seu diâmetro, sendo ele centenas de vezes mais fino que um fio de cabelo e invisível para os potentes microscópios ópticos. Contaminação de nanomateriais para aplicação diagnóstico-terapêutica pode ocorrer em qualquer fase do processo. Um dos maiores contaminantes é o lipopolissacarídeo (LPS). Uma vez contaminado a remoção é difícil, pois o LPS é resistente a grande temperaturas e pH extremos. O objetivo deste trabalho é determinar LPS em Nanotubos de Carbono de Parede Múltipla (NTCPM) e Nanotubos de Carbono de Parede Múltipla Carboxilados (NTCPM-COOH). Para os testes in vitro, esplenócitos foram isolados de camundongos BALB/c fêmeas. A detecção de LPS foi feita através do método de gelificação em tubo, Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) e método de gelificação em placa com sensibilidade de 1UE/mL, os NTC foram esterilizados em autoclave, forno de Pasteur e autoclavagem em 3 ciclos. O LPS foi detectado na amostra que não foi esterilizada e que sofreu apenas um ciclo de autoclave, já o formado e o autoclavado em 3 ciclos foi removido todo o LPS. A viabilidade celular e o teste de proliferação foram realizados nas amostras esterilizadas e não esterilizadas na concentração de 10ng/mL. Os resultados encontrados indicaram que não houve diferença significativa (p
