Two parent-child education programs : a descriptive study

Includes bibliographical references (pages 68-69)Two parent-child education programs are described,\ud one for families with infants from three to eight months\ud of age and one for families with toddlers eighteen to\ud thirty months of age. Research literature is reviewed on\ud maternal sensitivity, attachment, differing childrearing\ud styles and temperamental differences among infants. The\ud groups are described with respect to their initiation and\ud organization, the leader's goals, and the interaction among\ud the children and the parents. The progress of the two\ud groups is discussed and the nature of each parent/infant\ud dyad is summarized. In the view of the group leader, these\ud two programs seem to have enhanced the childrearing skills \ud of the parents and the social, affective and cognitive\ud skills of the young children involved. The experience\ud with these families led to the conclusion that therapeutic\ud intervention was not an appropriate goal for the two programs\ud described
