This thesis details the author's research on cell division mutants of E. coli , which was undertaken in order to assess the most probable of these hypotheses as possible explanations for the sfi-25 phenotype:\ud 1. The sfi-25 mutation causes a decrease in the\ud amount of SulA protein in the cell.\ud 2. The sfi-25 mutation causes an increase in the\ud amount of Ftsz protein synthesized.\ud 3. The sfi-25 mutation alters a process which\ud normally modifies the activity of the FtsZ protein without\ud changing the amount of protein present
