An evening with Shel Silverstein: an M.A. thesis-project in directing

Includes bibliographical references (pages #-#)The decision for an M.A. thesis project in directing came to me as a combined result of the following several factors: my present position.\ud as a teacher in the Performing Arts Department at Beverly Hills High\ud School, my appreciation for the direction of both ensemble and\ud improvisational theatre, my interest in the utilization of non-dramatic\ud literature as the basis for theatrical presentation, my fascination\ud with multi-media production, and my sheer adoration for "Children-like"\ud theatre. Consequently, the literary works of Mr. Shel Silverstein\ud emerged as a prime source to challenge the combination of these\ud theatrical dilemmas. The high school's Little Theatre facility was\ud selected as an ideal location for the presentation of this thesis\ud production entitled "An Evening with Shel Silverstein". Three performances \vere scheduled on Hay 17th and 18th. The production was conceived of as a multi-media theatrical experience, amalgamating original music and slide projections, with the actors on stage. Work for the production began in December, 1978.
