The relationship between child physical abuse on peer relations and academic success

The current literature has demonstrated a relationship between academic problems and child abuse among school-aged children. However, there is minimal research on how peer relations impact academic performance. The purpose of this retrospective study was to examine the effect of child physical abuse has on peer relations as well as academic success among school-age children. The dependent variables for this study were peer relations and academic standing. The independent variable was child physical abuse. This study used primary data obtained from surveys completed by 289 participants who were undergraduate and graduate students from California State University of Los Angeles and California State University of Dominguez Hills. The sampling method used a nonprobability sample of convenience. Pearson's correlations findings indicated a strong relationship between child physical abuse and low academic success that is, the higher level of abuse, the lower the mean scaled grade point average
