International social work education study: abroad in Mexico

Future social work students need to be better equipped to work with immigrants and diverse populations. Research shows that international social work education that incorporates study abroad provides multiple benefits to students. If provided with adequate supervision, students increase cultural awareness, professional development and are better equipped to engage individuals from diverse populations, whether at home or abroad. Therefore, this project sought to develop a grant for an effective international social work education program, while identifying goals, objectives, and information needed to develop a successful social work study abroad program in Mexico. Implications of this study include increased knowledge for educators, to enhance future programs and improvement in micro and macro practice skills for students
