As células intersticiais de Cajal (CIC) têm sido estudadas como participante do peristaltismo em vários sistemas. Sua presença no trato geniturinário pode sustentar a importância dessas células na fisiopatologia da estenose da junção ureteropielica (JUP). O Objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a densidade das CIC em pacientes adultos e no final da adolescência, portadores de estenose da JUP, submetidos à pieloplastia e verificar se há associação entre a densidade das CIC com os achados clínicos e de imagem pré e pós-operatórios, notadamente ultrassonografia e cintilografia renal.
