Re/Generation Barrio Logan: A Place-based Audio Tour of Transitions and Continuities from 2007-2013

Includes bibliographical references (pages 32-35).Re/Generation Barrio Logan: A Place-based Audio Tour of Transitions and\ud Continuities from 2007-2013 is an alternative walking tour tracing the process of urban development. I began this project in 2007 as a photo-essay aimed at documenting changes to the barrio`s urban landscape. After spending six years documenting the barrio and listening to the stories being told, I learned that the people of Barrio Logan live in a battle zone where longtime residents and new-gente alike want to root down in a community where their lived experience and history are embedded into the landscape. They are dedicated to regenerating the barrio, fighting for a safe and pollution-free zone mobilized and executed by gente for\ud gente. By 2013, this body of work was completed and defended as an M.F.A. thesis project. The end result is a site-specific mobile app walking tour using both Social Practice Art and Chicana/Feminist/Indigenous methodologies as artistic and theoretical frameworks. Community storytelling, photography, and social media come together to create an\ud immersive, interactive, and educational user experience tracing the transitions and continuities of Barrio Logan`s local culture and its urban landscape. This written document is a testament to both the creative process and my own personal transformation during this journey
