The purpose of this research is to build a notetaking system that supports the three tenets of presence, editability and linkability while preserving paper-based interaction\ud specifically in mobile contexts. To this end, we created PocketPad, an information management system geared toward university students that is designed to support the capture, storage, browsing, editing and organization of handwritten notes. Through the combined use of different hardware components, we built a synchronization component that bridges the paper-electronic information divide in mobile contexts.
