A comparison of personality traits between successful and unsuccessful collegiate male swimmers

Includes bibliographical references (pages 61-64)The study was designed to test the following null\ud hypothesis: there are no significant differences between\ud any personality traits, as measured by the Cattell Sixteen\ud Personality Factor Test, and the degrees of success among\ud collegiate male varsity swimmers. The purpose of this study was to measure each individual's personality traits and further to determine\ud whether successful and unsuccessful swimmers could be identified\ud on the basis of individual personality characteristics. The subjects comprising the groups in this investigation\ud were the members of the men's varsity swimming team,\ud at California State University, Northridge. The members of\ud the swimming team consisted of seventeen college-age males. (See more in text.
