Ricos e pobres no mercado de trabalho: ampliação do acesso ao ensino superior X barreiras sociais

Toma como referência um estudo realizado pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais UFMG, no ano de 2006, a respeito de ex-alunos que se formaram nesta universidade em períodos distintos: 1980, 1990, 1995 e 2000. O objetivo principal da tese consiste em investigar os limites e as possibilidades que esses egressos encontraram no que diz respeito às suas trajetórias no mercado de trabalho medidas a partir da renda e do prestígio ocupacional por eles alcançado. Toma como reflexão teórica o embate entre por um lado, análises meritocráticas e por outro lado, a chamada teoria da reprodução social. Desse modo, considera variáveis de origem e de capital humano, investigando o efeito destas, mediante a conclusão do ensino superior, para compreender a respeito das barreiras e das novas possibilidades para a transição intrageracional dos egressos que compõem o estudo. Para além dos egressos da UFMG, outro ponto importante consiste em investigar o efeito que a conclusão do ensino superior terá para os seus filhos, ou seja, as gerações futuras, investigando sobre o tipo de escola que os filhos dos egressos frequentam, partindo de uma investigação a respeito do investimento que seus pais realizam em sua educação. A realização deste estudo se faz relevante, pois pretende investigar os processos de ruptura ou a manutenção das estruturas de desigualdade já marcadamente identificadas, a partir de diversos estudos que tratam a respeito da temática da desigualdade social no Brasil. Além disso, diante do recente contexto de expansão do ensino superior no Brasil, para jovens de origem pobre e dentre estes também negros, que vêm se desenvolvendo tanto nas universidades públicas, a partir das cotas e do Reuni, quanto das instituições de ensino superior particulares, a partir dos programas Fies e ProUni. Trata-se de uma investigação que possibilita refletir a respeito de possíveis cenários para as trajetórias desses jovens, mediante a atual perspectiva do governo federal que considera a promoção da inclusão social a partir do acesso à educação superior.The present work investigates youth transition to adulthood starting from the conclusion of higher education level up to the posterior entrance into the labor market. The work is based on a survey made by the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais UFMG in 2006. Former students who have concluded their studies in this university in the years of 1980, 1990 and 1995 were interviewed. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the limits and the possibilities that these former students found during their trajectories into the labor market, measured by their achieved income and occupational prestige. The study reflects upon a confrontation between meritocratic analysis and the social reproduction theory. It takes into account background and human capital variables, investigating their influence, from the point of conclusion of undergraduate level of education and trying to understand the barriers and the new possibilities in relation to intragenerational transition. The study also intends to investigate the possible effects of the conclusion of undergraduate level on the next generation by analyzing the type of schools the sons and daughters of the study sample were able to achieve. This study is relevant because it intends to investigate the rupture process or the maintaining structures of inequality that are already identified from several previous studies about social inequalities in Brazil. It is also relevant because of the contemporary context of expansion of coverage of undergraduate study level promoted by the federal government aiming to include youth who came from socially disadvantaged families and blacks into public and private universities, via the programs Reuni, Fies and ProUni. It is an investigation who intends to project possible scenarios to youth professional trajectories, investigating the achievements of the federal government in relation to social inclusion through enhancement of access to the higher education
