A study of the relationship between admission requirements and the graduate grade-point average of students at California State University, Northridge

Includes bibliographical references (pages 87-89)This investigation was undertaken to analyze the current admission requirements for graduate students pursuing their master's degree in business at California State University, Northridge. Upon examination of these current admission standards, it was anticipated that a prediction model could be developed to be utilized as a measurement in predicting the degree of a student's academic success once he or she had been admitted into the master's degree program.\ud The two graduate business programs discussed in this study were the Master of Business Administration degree program (MBA) which is designed for students having received their bachelor???s degree in an area other than business, and the Master of Science degree program (MS) which is designed for students having received their bachelor???s in business. The Master of Science degree program consists of seven options from which the student may choose one area in which to specialize. These options are: accounting, business education, finance,\ud management, management science, marketing, and office administration.\ud Two-hundred thirty students were selected for this study. To be selected, a student must have completed at least fifty percent of all graduate-level course work. Foreign students were excluded due to their language and cultural differences, and students pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Economics were also excluded due to the varying entrance requirements for this program.
