National family planning in Thailand, a study of current trends and government responsibilities

Includes bibliographical references (pages 52-55)The high rate of population growth has caused an overwhelming increase in individual and national need in family planning. The rapid increase in population growth has created many problems, not only the problems of individuals, but also of national economics and the social order of our country.\ud What has been and what should be the function of government in family planning? These are the questions which this thesis attempts to study and for which some answers are suggested.\ud It is the obligation of the Thai government to provide today???s people with more information on birth control and the possible benefits derived from a reduction of the current high rate of population growth.\ud This thesis has been developed to support voluntary family planning in order to reduce population growth rates. Due to the fact that primitive agricultural techniques and low levels of education cannot keep up with such high population growth rates (which constitute an important obstacle to the economic and social development in Thailand), it is paramount to institute plans to reduce rates of growth.\ud The emphasis in this study of family planning was directed toward the relationship of government to people. In order for this relationship to be seen in its proper prospective, it was necessary to survey briefly those past developments and current conditions that have had an impact on the present family planning system.
