Includes bibliographical references (pages 52-53)A survey was conducted in dogs and cats for the presence of simonsiella, a multicellular, filamentous, gliding genus of bacteria. It was found in the mouths of sixty-six of sixty-seven dogs and in eight of nine dogs. The survey which was based on one oral sample from each animal, shows that Simonsiella occurs in nearly all dogs and cats. Nine strains of simonsiella were isolated from dogs and one strain was isolated from a cat using a direct isolation procedure and a serum- supplemented medium. (See more in text.
