Includes bibliographical references (pages 91-104)The purpose of this study was to create a model for interpreting the provenance of offshore, petroleum-bearing sandstone reservoirs in the Taranaki Basin of New Zealand using sand samples from modern streams in the region as proxies. Twenty sand samples from streams draining plutonic, metamorphic, and sedimentary terranes exposed on South Island, New Zealand, were collected for petrographic analysis.
