Sustainability and family farming: a case study in the Assaré Patative Settlement in the municipality of Patos-PB in light of environmental indicators.

As áreas desapropriadas para fins de reforma agrária devem exercer sua função social mediante uma produção agrícola familiar, que possibilite ao produtor tirar o sustento diretamente da terra. No entanto, a produção nessas localidades nem sempre apresentam o caráter sustentável em sua execução, promovendo danos ao meio ambiente, e por vezes não garantindo nem mesmo o suficiente para a unidade familiar. Mediante o cenário exposto, o presente estudo dispõe-se a analisar a política de Agricultura Familiar do Assentamento Patativa do Assaré, localizado no Distrito de Santa Gertrudes, município de Patos-PB, através da aplicação de questionários voltados para análise do tripé da sustentabilidade, por meio de indicadores, a fim de avaliar os principais fatores que vêm incidindo negativamente na produção e no meio natural da localidade, bem como considerar o perfil socioeconômico dos moradores e as características geoclimáticas da região, a fim de medir os danos que essa realidade pode gerar para a comunidade, apresentando uma proposta de intervenção mediante uma abordagem sustentável da problemática. O estudo realizou uma pesquisa de campo, de caráter quali-quantitativo e descritivo. Os dados aqui dissertados foram colhidos mediante aplicação de questionários e analisados através de técnicas estatísticas. Os resultados encontrados apontam para a necessidade da criação e implementação de uma política voltada para a conscientização das técnicas de produção local, bem como no uso de recursos naturais, que apresentam elevado nível de escassez, instigando através desta a consciência sustentável dos moradores e produtores. Espera-se ao final do estudo despertar o debate acadêmico acerca das complexidades existentes na dinâmica de produção desses assentamentos, bem como atrair a atenção social e governamental das autoridades locais para os problemas enfrentados pelos moradores do local em estudo.The agrarian question in Brazil is a policy that has been articulated for decades, however, it still presents a series of management failures, ranging from the bad distribution of land, to precarious housing, which in turn presents complexities such as difficult access the water itself for human consumption, methods of production harmful to the environment, among other issues. Areas expropriated for the purpose of agrarian reform must exercise their social function through a family agricultural production, which enables the producer to take sustenance directly from the land. However, production in these locations is not always sustainable in its execution, promoting damage to the environment, and sometimes not even ensuring enough for the family unit. Based on the above scenario, the present study aims to analyze the Family Agriculture policy of Assaré Patativa Settlement, located in the district of Santa Gertrudes, in the municipality of Patos-PB, through the application of questionnaires aimed at sustainability tripod analysis, by means of indicators, in order to evaluate the main factors that are negatively affecting the production and the natural environment of the locality, as well as to consider the socioeconomic profile of the residents and the geoclimatic characteristics of the region, in order to measure the damages that this reality can to the community, presenting a proposal for intervention through a sustainable approach to the problem. The study conducted a field research, of qualitative and quantitative character and descriptive. The data presented here were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using statistical techniques. The results show the need for the creation and implementation of a policy aimed at raising awareness of local production techniques, as well as the use of natural resources, which present a high level of scarcity, instigating the sustainable awareness of the inhabitants and producers. At the end of the study, it is hoped that the academic debate about the complexities in the dynamics of production of these settlements will be aroused, as well as to attract the social and governmental attention of the local authorities to the problems faced by the inhabitants of the place under study
